Real answers to the questions parents actually ask.
FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
— ONE —
Getting Started
-
I help parents understand their child's IEP or ETR by translating complex educational language into plain, easy-to-understand terms. I also help you prepare for meetings, understand what your child's support actually means in the classroom, and feel confident advocating for them.
-
Parents who feel overwhelmed by IEP or ETR documents. Parents who want to understand their child's school supports more clearly. Parents who feel unsure how to advocate in meetings. Anyone who wants calm, guided support through a confusing process.
-
No. I support parents at every stage — evaluations, initial eligibility, active IEPs, and reviews. If you're earlier in the process, that's actually a great time to get clarity.
-
Yes. Most parents feel this way at some point. IEP and ETR documents are full of technical language that isn't designed for everyday understanding. My role is to break it down so you can finally feel clear and confident about what's being said.
-
Availability depends on current scheduling, but most Clarity Sessions can be booked within a week. If you have an urgent meeting coming up, let me know and I'll do my best to fit you in.
-
Collaborative, honest, and straightforward. We're here to guide the process, bring ideas to the table, and keep things moving.
What to Expect
— TWO —
How sessions work, what we cover, and what you'll walk away with.
-
Before your session, you'll share your child's IEP or ETR documents. During the session, we walk through everything in plain language and discuss next steps. Afterward, you receive a written summary of key points and recommendations to keep.
-
By phone or Google Meet. Standard hours are 9am–4pm. Some evening hours from 7pm–9pm are available — just ask when you book.
-
That's completely okay. You don't need any prior knowledge. My job is to translate everything into clear, everyday language so you can understand what matters for your child.
-
I don't make decisions for you, but I do help you understand your options, prepare questions, and feel confident speaking up. The goal is to support you in making informed decisions — not to replace your role as your child's advocate.
-
A review focuses on explaining your documents in plain language so you understand them. Advocacy support goes further — ongoing guidance, preparation, communication help, and potential meeting attendance.
-
Most parents walk away with a clear understanding of their child's IEP or ETR, confidence in what the school is offering (and what's missing), prepared questions for meetings, and less stress with more clarity about next steps.
Scope of Service
— THREE —
What I do — and what I'll tell you straight when something is outside my lane.
-
No. I'm an educator, not an attorney. I help you understand the educational side so you can participate confidently. If your situation truly needs a lawyer, I'll tell you.
-
No. This is educational support and coaching based on my experience as an Intervention Specialist and educator. If you or your child need mental health support, I'll always recommend a licensed professional.
-
Yes — virtual meeting attendance is included in the Advocacy Partnership package. I'll be there with you in real time, helping you respond and understand what's happening.
-
No. Sessions are virtual and I work with families anywhere in the country. Being based in Stark County means I know the local school landscape — but my work isn't limited to it.
-
I'll tell you. Some IEP/ETR situations are best handled by a special education attorney — formal disputes, due process, mediation, or rights violations. I'll be honest if I think you've reached that point and help you understand what to look for.
Pricing & Payment
— FOUR —
How packages, payments, and policies work — no surprises.
-
That's exactly what the free 30-minute Clarity Session is for. We'll talk through your situation and I'll be honest with you — sometimes a single $90 session is all someone needs. Other times the partnership tier makes more sense.
-
Yes. Most families start small and move up when they're ready. Many begin with The Clarity Beginning and graduate to monthly support later — that's by design.
-
One-time packages are paid at booking. The Advocacy Partnership is structured as a $675 monthly rate for a year.
-
Every package has a defined scope. If your situation grows beyond what your current package covers, you'll have two options — move up to the next tier, or continue at an hourly rate of $125/hr for any work that falls outside your original package scope. No surprise charges.
-
No. Any unused phone or virtual meeting time does not roll over to the next month. Each month's allotment is fresh.
-
Cancellations made 24+ hours before a call or virtual meeting can be rescheduled. Cancellations within 24 hours are given a 1-time grace and can be rescheduled — any additional within-24-hour cancellations after that will not be rescheduled. Any cancellation must be rescheduled within 24 hours of the cancellation. No-shows will not be rescheduled. Advocacy Partnership clients on the monthly structure can cancel future months with 14 days' notice.
Privacy & Confidentiality
— FIVE —
How your child's information is handled — and what happens to it after.
-
Yes. Every document and conversation is strictly confidential and used only to support you. I don't sell, share, or distribute client information to third parties.
-
Whatever's relevant — your child's current IEP, the most recent ETR or evaluation reports, progress reports, recent emails from the school team, and any notes you've kept. I'll let you know if I need anything else after our first conversation.
-
Documents are kept securely and used only for your services. You can request deletion at any time after our work together ends.
